MY CHUD JOB
Feb 9, 2026

My new job is so weird. Everybody involved is a mess and a half. And it's a real "blind leading the blind" situation because this is a transitional living program, basically like a halfway house for those exiting a jail or psych hospital setting with mental health diagnoses/substance use problems. And yet many of the clients are generally more well-adjusted than some of the employees. Yesterday, the lady I was working with, who is a former meth addict, was stressed because her 15 year-old son was involved in truancy court and he was telling people she beats him, her son's dad is on meth, she recieved an eviction notice, and she has a shitty boyfriend in prison who isn't helpful at all. Today, there was yet another power struggle with the manager after the psychiatric nurse, who does the medication prescribing, asked if a prescription for a client was delivered, but nobody could find it. The manager freaked out, blamed the employees currently on shift (and not the ones who were working at the time the medication was supposedly delivered?), demanded we search everywhere and in all the clients rooms, only for everyone to realize the psych nurse fucked up. TBD whether they actually apologize or not.
Another one of my coworkers is a nepo baby. His dad is some big-shot manager in the organzation somewhere. That guy drives me nuts. He's 21 years old and a turbo Republican, he's from Waco so he's the only other guy here from Texas, and he's trying to become a cop. He wouldn't stop complaining about the Bad Bunny halftime show the other day. I feel like he makes me look bad as a Texan.
Then there's this other chick who smells like weed, falls asleep during her shift for hours at a time, won't do any "unplesant" elements of the job, and is just an overall nuisance. She is 23 and just moved into an apartment with her 38 year old boyfriend she's been dating for A MONTH. There's so much tea. So much drama. Nobody wants to be here. I am the only one with mental health experience and I got duped into this job because I came from Texas, where the minimum wage is $7.25/hr, so a job paying $20.55/hr sounded legit.
And then I moved here and found out Denver's minimum wage is $19.96/hr. Welp.
Anyways I'm sure I'll have more tea later. It's way more interesting than my classes right now... I barely feel like I'm learning anything.
Blasting off again,
chase.
